           Labor Wing of this High Commission is  working to provide welfare oriented services to the Bangladeshi expatriates’ and to explore the employment opportunities in Mauritius. Mauritius is a favorite destination of Bangladeshi workers. The main reason is that the working conditions are better than any other countries where Bangladeshi workers are usually want to go.Bangladeshi workers are feeling homely environment in food items, temperature, human external getup and also in natural beauty. Bangladeshi workers have contributed in a big way to Mauritius infrastructure development and garments industry. Bangladeshi workers are hardworking and law abiding so Mauritian employers are interested to hire Bangladeshi workers. At present about 23thousand Bangladeshi workers are working in Mauritius.

 

SERVICE PROVIDED BY LABOUR WING:

1.      Attestation of papers relating to recruitment from Bangladesh;

2.      Authentication and verification of employment contracts and related papers;

3.      Counselling and assistance to Bangladeshi workers in settling disputes with employer;

4.      Issue of No Objection Certificate for the transportation to Bangladesh of mortal remains of deceased Bangladeshi nationals;

5.      Assistance to the deceased family in claiming death compensation and other benefits due to accidental deaths at the working time;

6.      Realisation of death compensation claims and regular dues of a deceased from concerned authorities and remit the money to Bangladesh to the next of kin of deceased Bangladeshi nationals, through wage Earners Welfare Board.

 

DISPUTE SETTLEMENT:

      All workers should seek help of the law for any kind of dispute settlement with the employer if possible. When someone in unable or could not settle the dispute should contact the labor wing. Labor wing negotiate the issue with Employers and/or their agents by visiting employer's offices and their working place. Sometimes labour wing asks the company owner to come to High Commission to settle the dispute. Ministry of Labor, Industrial Relation, Employment and Training in Mauritius is the appropriate authority and sometimes court is the right places to settle the disputes.

 

PROMOTIONAL WORKS TO EXPAND JOB OPPORTUNITIES:

 

1.      Meeting with concerned Mauritian government officials to share information.

2.      Visiting existing and potential big companies to appraise them about Bangladeshi workforce.

3.      Distribution of booklets and promotional materials obtained from MOEW&OE, BMET, BAIRA and BOESL.

4.      Informal promotional activities.

 

OTHER ACTIVITIES:

  1. Visit work place such as garments factory, construction site, bakery, furniture factoryetc. and dormitories of the workers and report about their facilities;

  2. Visit prisons and police stations to prepare list of cases of imprisoned Bangladeshi nationals and provide them legal support and facilities their repatriation;

  3. Visiting hospitals and dispensaries;

  4. Conducting motivational programs for sending remittance through proper channel;

  5. Celebrating different national, cultural and religious days and aware them about the rules and regulations of Mauritius;

  6. Issuance of Travel Permits.

  7.  Provide interpreter on demanding frompolice or court.

 

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR DEMAND LETTER ATTESTATION:

1.      Company/ Agency forwarding letter with their full address;

2.      ID card of the person who has signed in the forwarding letter;

3.      Power of Attorney;

4.      Quota paper and accommodation paper in favor of the company issued by the Ministry of Labor, Industrial Relation, Training and Employment, Republic of Mauritius;

5.      Attestation fee.

 

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR WORK VISA (WORK PERMIT) ATTESTATION:

1.      Company/ Agency forwarding letter with their full address;

2.      ID card of the person who has signed in the forwarding letter;

3.      Attested demand letter for more than 10 workers;

4.      For Less than 10 workers, quota paper and accommodation paper in favor of the company issued by the Ministry of Labor, Industrial Relation, Training and Employment, Republic of Mauritius;

5.      On the basis of previous quota paper, existing list of labor (mentioning date of arrival) and number of vacant post mentioned in the document;

6.      Attestation fee.

 

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR TRAVEL PERMIT:

1.      Forwarding letter from company or if run away then letter from immigration department;

2.      Photocopy of passport;

3.      Copy of general diary (G.D) in case of lost passport;

4.      Passport size photo two copies;

5.      Three signatures in a blank paper;

6.      Fees.

 

FEES:

1.      Attestation fees for demand letter, power of attorney, security vetting has been fixed at MUR 1000/- (one thousand) per document till further order.

2.      Attestation fees for work permit and employment contract has been fixed at MUR 175/- (one hundred and seventy-five) per page till further order.

3.      Fees for issuance of a travel permit is MUR 1750/- (Seventeen hundred and fifty only).

 

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR REPATRIATION OF DEAD BODY

  1. Company forwarding letter;

2.      Photocopy of Passport;

3.      Death Certificate;

4.      Medical Report from concerned hospital;

5.      Police Report from concerned Police Station;

6.      Financial Clearance to given by the sponsor;

7.      Deceased worker work permits;

8.      Air ticket for dead body;

9.      No fee is required.

SERVICE DELIVERY TIME:

  1. Demand Paper and Power of Attorney are attested within 7 (seven) working days.

  2. Work Permit and Contract of employment are attested within 3 (three) working day;

  3. Travel Permit is issued within 2 (two) working days;

  4. NOC for repatriation of dead body is issued on the same working day.
